Ericsson Radios Series
The RAN evolution will change the Fronthaul part of the network and open up for new opportunities. The fronthaul interface is moving from TDM based CPRI and becoming packetized using eCPRI. Instead of vendor specific protocols, open fronthaul is introduced. We also foresee a move from very static connections (from radio A to interface B on the baseband) to both being dynamic in nature and a true network with any-to-any connectivity. In addition, the compute power in the basebands have increased substantially enabling increased support for more radios/cells per baseband. This drives the need for a new portfolio to cater for new requirements of Open Fronthaul – Ericsson RAN Connect.
